This blog post isn’t career related but more about how sometimes you just need to switch off, especially with the way life is affecting many of us currently.
If you’re in the UK or anywhere else in the world still in Lockdown, I feel your pain! Who would have thought that this time last year everyone was out and about just living their lives and now many of us are stuck at home unable to see family and friends.
My aim with starting this blog was to set aside Sundays as my blogging days but with the announcement last Saturday night of UK Lockdown 2, I was feeling anything but creative vibes so I decided screw it, this blog is for my own happiness and if I don’t feel happy then I’m not forcing it.
So what did I do? I took a day totally and selfishly for me!
I had a virtual shopping and movie day with my best friend (honestly, best idea ever) we jumped onto Facetime, chose a Netflix film and got online browsing, you take it in turns to choose a website and both spend time browsing on that one before choosing the next website, like real shopping except with the comfort of pj’s, tea and nuggets!
Then it was all about binge-watching reality TV with a large glass of wine before having a bath. It genuinely was so chilled and relaxed I loved it.
However, I would love to say that I didn’t feel one bit of guilt for having such a unproductive and lazy day. Every so often I would feel really bad that I hadn’t done anything to ‘better myself‘ but I tried hard to push those negative thoughts out of my head because I needed it. That selfish time gave me the chance to mentally prepare for another lockdown and just not think about anything serious (other than the cheating scandal on Made in Chelsea, which seriously…OMG!).
Writing this blog post made me realise how important it is to take time to fully switch off, whatever switching off looks like for you. It may be going for a walk or run, chatting to friends, or watching your favourite movie – just do it!
2020 has been a shitty year for everyone and we have put so much pressure on ourselves to keep moving forward unaffected, we all expect ourselves to progress in our careers, education and life but the world throw one MASSIVE curveball at us and I think it’s appropriate for us to stand back a bit and appreciate that we are lucky enough to have gotten through the year.
So my little bit of advice for this blog…
- Take time out for yourself and be selfish, even if it’s just for a couple of hours. YOU DO YOU! As long as it’s not harming anyone, you need to do what makes you happy and sometimes we all need a mental break from our reality.
What’s your favourite ‘me time‘ activity?

Great reminder! I struggle with this and really have to remember that sometimes we just need to take time for ourselves. Thanks for sharing!

Completely! I think we forget to just enjoy ourselves fully sometimes and not always be thinking about our next step! Thanks for the lovely comment x
